GAA

Gaelic Games are an integral part of the make-up of the Bawnmore community. Hurling, Camogie, boys football and girls football are very strong in the locality.

The school is fortunate to have pupils who play with Claregalway G.A.A., Annaghdown G.A.A., Carnmore Hurling Club and Turloughmore Hurling Club. These local clubs have always been very supportive towards Bawnmore N.S. and its games development practices and have provided resources and coaching for the school teams.

Teachers within the school take coaching sessions with the pupils. The emphasis is always on enjoyment and progression. From movement and motor skills development right through to executing kicking/striking and catching skills in games, pupils are always encouraged to try their best.

Supplementary coaching is provided by Galway G.A.A., coaches from the Rural Social Scheme and coaches from the local clubs.

In-school blitzes provide opportunities for the pupils from First Class and Second Class to play games. Inter-school blitzes allow the pupils of Third Class and Fourth Class to experience competition against other schools.

Many former Bawnmore pupils have gone on to represent Galway at different levels. We do our best to support them by making posters with the pupils, putting up signs and sending out messages of support through our social media platforms. It is always a special occasion when former pupils return to Bawnmore to speak to the pupils about their sporting experiences.
